Abbeyfield Loughborough Society
The Abbeyfield Loughborough Society has been providing care and support to the elderly of Charnwood since 1963. We are a not-for-profit organisation and a registered charity and, as such, we reinvest in our home, staff, and volunteers to make sure our residents are comfortable, safe, and happy.
We specialise in dementia care, with Westfield House providing accommodation for 31 elderly residents. In summer 2022 we are opening the purpose-built Ingleside House on the same site, and this will accommodate an additional 33 residents.
Our aim is to provide a safe, dignified, and homely environment which promotes well-being in our residents. We follow the principles of person-centred care, seeing each resident as an individual with unique qualities, interests, preferences, and needs rather than simply focussing on their illness or abilities that they may have lost.
Dementia Care Specialists
We have 31 single rooms:
19 with wash basin facilities and 12 with en-suite wash hand basin and WC.
What Care Do You Need?
Looking after someone with dementia can be challenging. There may come a time when you’re no longer able to look after them at home, or it’s in everyone’s interests that residential care is considered.
We appreciate that the decision can be very emotional, as you may feel you’re letting the person with dementia down. However, if you’re struggling to meet their needs, this may be the best decision for both the person you care for and for you.
To help you with the decision, it is important to obtain an assessment of the person’s care needs. Where possible, the assessment should be completed before making enquiries about care home places, as this might influence which care home you choose.
Professional Quality Care
Quality Care Services for the Elderly
We believe in offering quality care to all our residents. Any residential accommodation for people in older age must meet certain quality standards. We are monitored and regulated by external regulatory bodies, including Care Quality Commission, Leicestershire County Council and Charnwood Borough Council. In addition, the central Abbeyfield organisation routinely visits to undertake its own inspection.
At Abbeyfield Loughborough we also conduct our own assessments to ensure that both our ethos and professional standards are met. A team of experienced Board members monitor and evaluate our staff, facilities and services to ensure that every individual’s wellbeing and needs are being met within excellent environments.

“I write on behalf of the family as a whole, to express our sincere thanks to you and the staff at Westfield for looking after Mum in thee last years of her life. Your commitment to best practice is evident in all that you do at Westfield, and as a result Mum was looked after in a happy, clean and caring environment where every effort was made to meet her needs, physical, spiritual and emotional.”
“Thanks to everyone at Abbeyfield for having me as a volunteer, I had a great time. I used my volunteering experience to gain entry to medicine at Liverpool University. Thanks again and best wishes.”
“After my husband died, I felt I wanted to do something useful, so befriending was an ideal solution. I love inter-acting with the elderly, they have such diverse backgrounds and such a lot to offer society in general.”
