A BRIEF HISTORY OF ABBEYFIELD LOUGHBOROUGH

The Abbeyfield Loughborough Society was originally formed in 1963 having stemmed from the Council of Social Services who built John Storer House in Loughborough.

The first two houses that were purchased in Loughborough were in Toothill Road and Forest Road. In 1967 further properties at 11 and 12 Park Street were purchased along with 17 Victoria Street.

As the needs for the elderly changed in the late 1980's, the society built and developed Westfield House which received its first residents in September 1990 and was formally opened by the Duke of Westminster in June 1991.

Over recent years, the society has undergone various transistions with a need to rely less on volunteer support and the introduction of more full time staff. This protects the future success of the society and assists the active group of volunteer trustees who have ably supported the society since 1961, most recently led by Brian Bunn.
